Here are some random pictures from this weekend.... No particular story to them Just posting because I like them!

First up... This was my first present on mothers day! Brianna (going to kindy next year) has been working on rhyming words and wrote these all by herself :)

Having a popsicle! These I made with some berries and banana's just a splash of milk... The kids have been eating them for breakfast on hot days :)

I need to get some more pictures of the boys... I will be working on it :) I hope everyone had a lovely mothers day! I know I did I received so many homemade cards! and a flower that Alex grew, My husband got me a ring and earrings That I will have to take a photo of later, and then he and the kids made dinner for me!

Friday Garden!

So it is friday again and time to check up on our garden! I am pleased to report that so far nothing has died!!!!

(I am usually not very good with plants)

First up broccoli and cauliflower! Some of these leaves are as big as my hand now!(these are Brianna and Caitlynn's plants)

Then cucumbers! We had good luck with these last year too!

Our blueberry bushes. the one on the left looks healthier, but they are both growing well!

Carrots on the top and watermelon on the bottom. The carrots are Alex's, the watermelon Nathaniel's.

Sub Roll Recipe

Since yesterday I have had several requests for the Sub roll recipe we used... The only problem is that the link to the recipe no longer works ackkkk. Luckily for you guys I wrote it down. I will write some notes at the bottom. There are a few things I would have changed to the recipe but since I was working with a brand new baker I wasn't going to change things on him. We just followed directions.

Copycat Subway Rolls

Ingredients:
1 1/2 cup water
1/2 cup honey
1/3 cup butter
5 1/2 cups flour
1/2 cup rolled oats
2 tsp. salt
2 tsp. yeast
2 eggs
1 TBSP. cold water
1 egg white
1/2 cup rolled oats

Directions

1. In a saucepan heat water, honey and butter until warm.

2. In a large mixing bowl combine 5 c. flour, 1/2 c. oats, salt, yeast.
Mix in warm liquids until just blended. Knead in last 1/2 c flour
Place in a greased bowl, cover and let rise 1 hour

3. Punch down dough divide into 8 pieces. Shape dough into long thin rolls aprox. 12 inches long. Place on 2 greased cookie sheets and let rise 1 more hour.

4. Combine egg white and water, brush dough, sprinkle with remaining oats
Bake at  375* for 20-25 min.


Notes: This was a very simple recipe.
But it was a little to sweet. Had I been making it myself I probably would have cut the honey in half. 2 of the sub rolls where honestly to small to use for subs Making 6 rolls would have been a good idea instead of trying to make it make 8. I will probably increase the amount of yeast to either 2.5 or 3 tsp. next time. And if I had it I probably would have used half whole wheat flour.
I will probably make it again with those changes!

Mmmmmm Bread!

Yesterday I mentioned making my 10 year old make sub rolls for dinner. Well I did hahahahhaha. Well he did the vast majority I found and easy recipe and stood over and watched him. Lets just say for his first time making yeast bread he did AWESOME. 

We had the perfect summer dinner

The bread was just the right size! and perfect.

Yummm!

I however got lazy and we just had applesauce on the side. I was planning to cut up a bunch of veggies, but I didn't LOL

The kids probably preferred it that way :)

Random Thoughts

Well I'm not sure anything I have to say today will be relevant to anything. I just feel like talking and letting you all enjoy my randomness.  I'm bored.. Hahaha Yeah I have 4 kiddos and I should be cleaning but I would rather sit here with a cup of coffee and be bored. Plus if I get up now my kids will start bugging me, even though they keep talking at me now, I can zone them out a little bit sitting here.. Just for a little bit I will be getting up when I am done writing this post.


My three year old doesn't color or draw at all anymore.. She "Writes a Story". Even on coloring book pages.

And they all look like that. When I ask her to read them to me they can be anything from her favorite nursery rhyme, or what she had for breakfast. And it could even be about a princess, Or her daddy. She really is a very good story teller at the ripe old age of 3 :).
Oh and her favorite nursery rhyme is Little Miss Muffet.
She says
"Little Miss Muffet, Sat on her tuffet, Along came a spider and scared her away"
And it is adorable!!

Nathaniel brought home some artwork the other day... I was wowed... seriously I need a frame for it :)

Best Mother's day present ever! I LOVE it!

Oh have I ever told you guys that I LOVE to read. Seriously I love to get swept away in a good book and the library is my BFF! I recently read book 1 of Night World by L. J. Smith. It is actually 3 separate stories and WOW. If you like magic, vampires, and such mysterious things check it out! I think I finished it in 2 days, It was that good. Now I have books 2 and 3 on hold at the library I Can't wait to go get them on Monday.

Oh and our bean plants have flowered! I had no clue they were going to grow this well. I mean they were little pinto beans, the kind you buy to EAT. Then we dug up some nasty yucky red clay like soil from our backyard and planted them... And now they have flowers! I am speechless.

So what is everyone doing for dinner tonight?
I think we are going to make subs. But I want to find a good recipe for sub rolls. Yummmmm. I think Subs are just about my favorite meal ever! It is even better when we go to subway and they make them! Ok I guess I'm off to find a recipe and get my 10 year old to help me make some rolls for dinner!  I hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend!!!
