Adventures in hat making...

So yesterday I attempted to make my daughters a crochet hat... I have never actually crocheted anything, unless practicing the stitches count. My first attempt was garbage.. Lets just say I did EVERYTHING wrong. So I started over. The second attempt was promising! but really really tiny..

But not a complete waste because the girls then had a new hat for their beloved dolls! Still I refused to give up. I spent all last night working hard and lets say I am pretty proud of the results

Brianna is in love and Caitlynn wants her own!

I think I will have to attempt a few more hats in different colors now!!!

Wanna be bad???

Seriously realllly bad
Then make some brownie pudding.....
I mean just look at it!

Yeah we all burnt our mouths a little bit

It is THAT good!

Brownie pudding (from the 1953 reprint of the BH&G cookbook)

1 cup of flour
2 tsp baking powder
3/4 c. sugar
2 TBS cocoa
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 c. milk
1 tsp. vanilla
2 TBS melted shortening (I just used vegetable oil)
3/4 to 1 c. walnuts (I used peanuts)
3/4 c. brown sugar
1/4c. cocoa powder
1 3/4 c hot water

Sift together flour, baking powder, sugar, 2 TBS. cocoa, and salt. Add milk, vanilla, shortening; mix until smooth. Add nuts. Pour into a greased 8x8x2 pan.
Mix Brown sugar and 1/4 c. cocoa; sprinkle over batter. Pour hot water over entire batter. Bake in moderate oven (350 degrees) 40 - 45 min.

I baked it for 40.
Go.. Cook... NOW!

Yummmmmmmmmmm.

What a wonderful weekend!

Ok so I meant to post this yesterday and didn't... I was busy LOL. So this weekend was really really nice. Saturday was the normal clean up the house do laundry then sit back read a book and watch it rain :) Sunday We went and met up with my parents and baby brother for lunch. It was really nice I always like Ruby Tuesdays! I wish you could all have seen Alex's plate though.. Both of them. He always gets the same thing, The salad bar.. His plate was LOADED with green peppers, cucumbers, zuchini, peas, lima beans, carrots, some ham, and grapes. All of his favorites LOL. :)
All of the others got the chicken strips Yummmm.

Caitlynn Wanted apples with hers, I was expecting a little bowl of sugary sweet cinnamon apples to show up. Instead she got a pretty large bowl of raw red and green apples cut into bite sized pieces!  Awesome!
Amazingly enough my kids were all pretty well behaved! I was very pleased and let them know it too!

I love the ride home when we go out (anywhere really) Now that we live in the mountains..And Sunday was such a pretty day!
(and my Camera took some AWESOME pictures LOL)
When we got home The kids didn't want to go in just yet

The girls chased a poor little butterfly!

And jumped in a puddle

The boys... They were off in their own imaginary world, donning their armor, Grabbing their swords and fighting the evil dragons :)
When I finally dragged them in made a quick dinner and sat and watch the thunderstorm roll by. We watched a discovery channel Dinosaur show and then headed up to bed :) It really was just a wonderful weekend!

Mouse paint!!!

At the Library yesterday the girls and I checked out the CUTEST book ever!  Mouse Paint By: Ellen Stoll Walsh.  We read it yesterday and immediately I started thinking of things we could do with the book! I went with my first idea and broke out some paints and had the girls paint along while I read.

Oh but first I drew the three white mice on their page!
I am loving this book, I love how fun it is and just the hands on way it introduces primary and then secondary colors

The girls really had a good time painting the story :)
"Look mommy I made orange!"

"It's gween!!"
And purple!
I love just how differently they painted the same story!

So what is your favorite children's book lately????

PS. If you have preschoolers run to the library NOW and grab this book! Even my 7 year old sat and listened to me read it yesterday! :)
